Google Plans Investment of $15bn for Constructing Artificial Intelligence Data Center in India

AI Data Center
The Nation is a key destination for computing facilities due to its affordable data rates and rapidly growing online population.

The parent firm of Google Alphabet plans to commit $15 billion for constructing an AI data hub in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.

The facility, that is planned in the port city of the city of Visakhapatnam, is going to be a part of the worldwide network of Google of AI centres distributed over a dozen nations.

"It stands as the greatest AI facility that we are committing funds to across the globe, excluding the US," Thomas Kurien announced at an conference in the capital city of Delhi recently, noting that the investment will be allocated across the coming five years.

The revelation occurs when American President Donald Trump has been encouraging companies from the United States to prioritise local funding.

India's Increasing Significance in AI Infrastructure

The nation has risen as a major hub for artificial intelligence facilities. The nation's affordable data pricing and rapidly growing online population have turned it into a center for cloud and AI expansion for tech giants.

"This center will deliver our pioneering tech solutions to businesses and consumers in the nation, enhancing AI development and promoting progress nationwide," stated Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.

Specifics of the Project

A definitive arrangement to conclude the initiative will be signed soon, the Andhra Pradesh government announced.

"It constitutes a major step forward for our state's digital future, progress, and worldwide position," remarked the state's technology minister Nara Lokesh.

The project will integrate AI and cloud systems with renewable energy systems and an expanded fibre-optic network.

The State's Data Hub Strategy

This initiative is included in the Andhra Pradesh government's plan to establish 6GW of data center capability by the year 2029.

Data centers are physical facilities that house the networking and computing devices that organizations use to collect, process, store, and distribute data.

They feature computer servers, data storage systems and network equipment like firewalls and routers, combined with the required energy and climate management infrastructure to run them.

Financial Attractions

Within the state, the government has been providing subsidised land and electricity to entice worldwide funders.

Sector Expansion

The country's computing facility market has expanded quickly over the past five years, crossing the one gigawatt capacity threshold in 2024 and approximately tripling its capability from 2019.
